This exhibition, which includes about 40 works by the French academic artist William Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905), explores the amazing popularity of the artist in the United States. Modern and highly refined Bougreau's interpretation of classical objects, including heroic people, sensual goddesses and playful cupids, as well as his intimate and idealized depiction of peasant life, were in demand by American collectors.
