Elizabeth Elley carefully observed and recorded the world around herself throughout her career. Performing works ranging from intimate, but at the same time sharp sketches to painting paintings painted in both watercolor and oil, she was a leading force in the 21st century Memphis art community.
The exhibition presents her latest works - bright, expressive oil paintings, which captured the various and sometimes extreme landscapes that she encountered during her travels to Iceland, Newfoundland and Portugal. These paintings show her interest in discovering and exploring ways people interact with nature around the world. Equally studied and spontaneous paintings of Elley from each place come together to form a continuous story about her personal experience in the landscape and a more versatile panoramic view of some of the most remote but majestic corners of the world.
