A look back: Giorgio Morandi and the Old Masters

Exhibition April 12 − October 10, 2019
«Look back»Explores three precedents from three European countries, focusing on pre-modernist links until the 19th century. This is seventeenth-century Spanish painting and still life, Bologna artists from the late sixteenth to the beginning of the eighteenth centuries, as well as still lifes and genre works of the eighteenth-century French artist Jean-Baptiste Simeon Chardin. Giorgio Morandi filled his images of vases, bottles and boxes with all the theatricality of the Spanish Golden Age, the naturalism of the Italian seisento and the intimacy that Chardin brought to the world of everyday objects.
