Max Ernst: Natural History

Exhibition June 14 − October 13, 2019
The German artist, sculptor and graphic artist Max Ernst, a key figure in the development of art in the 20th century, intended to present in his works a unique and exciting world of dreams.

Series "Natural history”, One of his most famous surrealistic works, combines thirty-four drawings of the artist. In them, he uses the technique of friction, which consists in capturing various forms of objects placed under paper, rubbing with a pencil or charcoal pencil on the surface.

Ernst created images of textures, which he subsequently transformed into disturbing images of animals, plants and minerals - components of a metamorphic nature that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination.
