Exhibition September 21, 2019 − January 13, 2020
In honor of its 30th anniversary, the Yokohama Museum of Art presents the exhibition "Masterpieces from the collection of the Orangerie Museum, Jean Walther and Paul Guillaume". The exhibition includes about 70 works by 13 artists. Exhibits are selected from 146 paintings of the collection of Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume, which is considered one of the best painting collections in Europe. Viewers will see such masterpieces as “Girls at the Piano” by Renoir, as well as the famous works of Matisse, Picasso and Modigliani.

Paul Guillaume began to acquire the work of talented young artists for his collection, working as an art dealer in the early 20th century in Paris. He died at the height of his career, never realizing the plan to create a private art museum. His wife Domenica continued to replenish and transform the collection. Having acquired the collection, named by Domenica in honor of Guillaume and her second husband, Jean Walther, the French state transferred it to the Museum of the Orangery.
