At the beginning of the 20th century, emotions became a stylistic tool. At the same time, the concept of beauty was questioned and expanded. Colors played a decisive role in this process, acting as the primary means of dramatic image. These works of German expressionism have not lost any of their suggestive consequences to this day.

German expressionism"The Leopold Museum first presents in Vienna about 120 exhibits from the Swiss Braglia and Johenning collections, including works by Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Haeckel, Vasily Kandinsky, Alexei Yavlensky, Franz Mark, as well as Paula Becker, Paul Klee and Lionel Feininger.
