Kenji Nakahashi: The Carved Sky

Exhibition August 13, 2019 − January 1, 2020
In 1973, Kenji Nakahashi quit his career in design and left his native Japan for New York, where he lived and worked until his death. Although Nakahashi (1947–2017) was best known for his conceptual art based on photographs, he moved smoothly between mediums, experimenting with painting, graphics and printing.

Exhibition "Carved sky"presents works from the recent acquisition of the Museum - almost 50 prints, drawings and photographs of the 1970s and 1980s. Fascinated by the outside world, Nakahashi found creative inspiration in even the most mundane objects - every new place he visited and every passing thought gave a spark of inventive, bizarre, humorous or contemplative images.
