Female artists played a vibrant and often inexpressible role in Italy around 1600. How did they work and succeed in an art world dominated by men? The Detroit Institute of the Arts will study this issue and mark Italian women artists with the exhibition "
Artemisia Gentileschi and women artists of Italy"dedicated to their artistic accomplishments.
In addition to Artemisia Gentileschi, the public will be represented by a diverse and dynamic group of Italian artists, which will include Sofonisba Angvisola (1532–1625), Elizabeth Cyrani and others.
