"Stop! Filmed!". Museum exhibits in cinema

The State Museum of the History of Religion holds an exhibition"Stop! Taken!".

For the first time, the exhibition presents genuine objects of different religions, which became museum exhibits in Soviet times, and then were used by filmmakers as props. The vestments, icons, crosses, amulets, shamanic tambourine, Buddhist masks and much more ... In total, the exhibition presents about eighty objects that were on the set, as well as posters, photographs, documents, both from the collections of the State Museum of the History of Religion and from archive of the film studio "Lenfilm".

Exhibition project “Stop! Taken! ”- a kind of experiment. Its main goal is to show museum objects that played the role of props in cinema. The films in which museum objects were shot were very different, this is recognized film classics, and passing paintings, which only film historians now remember. The fate of museum items that were shot in films was almost always difficult - and in this they shared the fate of the country. Some came from private collections, others were rescued by museum staff from closed churches, churches, datsans, mosques, synagogues, and others came from private individuals. Visitors will be able to see this multi-layered story at the exhibition Stop! Shot! ”
