Book of nature

Exhibition November 14, 2019 − April 19, 2020
State Tretyakov Gallery presents an exhibition"Book of nature"prepared in the framework of the special exhibition program “The language of sculpture in Braille”.

The exhibition presents works from the workshops of Moscow sculptors. These are works of stone, wood, bronze, ceramics and optical glass. Among the authors are classics of the animalistic genre Andrei Marts (1924–2002) and Alexei Tsvetkov (1924–2009), as well as such famous sculptors as Boris Cherstvy, Dmitry Voronin, Oleg Kovrigin, Maxim Kharlov, Olga Khan and others.

In addition to works of authorship, the exhibition exhibits samples of “natural sculpture” - skulls of fossil animals, ammonites, fossils of fish and plants from the Paleontological Institute, as well as photographs of paleontological exhibits made using the relief printing technique. A special section of the exhibition is dedicated to the “Book of Herbs” by Dmitry Plavinsky (1937–2012). The exhibition includes audio materials and sound compositions by Alexander Chertkov.

The tactile exhibition is addressed, first of all, to those who cannot see works of art. Blind and visually impaired people have the opportunity to get acquainted here not with tactile copies, but with original works of sculpture. Podiums for sculptures are designed so that it is convenient to study volumetric forms by touch. The labels contain information printed in braille.
