Jean-Michel Otoniel. Rose of the Louvre

Exhibition May 25, 2019 − February 24, 2020
"Rose of the Louvre", the original work of Jean-Michel Otoniel, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Pyramid, will be included in the museum’s collections. This donation once again marks the fruitful ties between contemporary art and the Louvre.

Jean-Michel Otonel presents in the Louvre, among the masterpieces of garden sculpture of the 17th and 18th centuries, an installation consisting of six unpublished ink drawings on gold leaf. The artist inspired the creation of these paintings by a rose painted by Rubens in the film “Marriage by proxy of Maria Medici and Henry IV” (1621-1625). This rose was chosen by the artist to become a symbol of the museum.

He reveals the story in his book “Wonderful herbarium"Published on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Pyramid.
