Travel on paper

Exhibition November 16, 2019 − February 9, 2020
Like the journey itself, the speed of creating and distributing images has accelerated beyond what tourists from earlier centuries considered possible. However, although the transfer methods are now digital and instantaneous, the impetus for documenting and improving travel experiences stems from earlier and slower image creation methods. For European and American artists of the nineteenth century - the main focus of this exhibition - drawings, sketches and photographs taken during their travels, found various ways to a wider exposure. Thus, advances in technology and distribution methods have introduced Europeans and Americans to a wide range of people and cultures that they have not encountered before.

Exhibition "Travel on paper", which features artists, various media and local figures, demonstrates a diverse mix of observed details and clean images that mark the most indelible images of foreign places and peoples.
