Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, known as the Pastoral Symphony, inspired Viennese artist Joseph Maria Auchentaller (1865-1949) to create monumental paintings to decorate his father’s music room.
The ensemble, consisting of five paintings, represents the first artistic and pictorial realization of all the movements of the Beethoven symphony and is a striking example of the tradition of music halls that survived the heyday of about 1900.
Exhibition "
Inspired by Beethoven"the Leopold Museum engages in a multifaceted dialogue with the works of Gustav Klimt, Karl Mall, Alfred Roller and shows how Beethoven became an inspiration for representatives of Viennese modernism fighting for recognition in the visual arts.
