Gift of Marat. Modern art from the Gelman collection

Exhibition February 15 − March 22, 2020
The State Tretyakov Gallery presents an exhibition of works donated to the museum from the collection of Marat GelmanThe Gift of Marat.

The exhibits of the collection, which Gelman donates to the Tretyakov Gallery, include works that reflect the main trends in the development of art in the post-Soviet space of the 1990–2000s. The works of the main Moscow shareholders, Oleg Kulik and Anatoly Osmolovsky, are side by side with the neo-modernist experiments of Avdey Ter-Oganyan, the picturesque experiments of Viktor Alimpiev with pseudo-documentary Dmitry Vrubel, the neo-pop art of Vladimir Dubosarsky and Alexander Vinogradov with a “retrospective video of Dmitri and Gregory Dmitry and Mamysheva-Monroe and Blue Noses bands - with virtual battles AES + F.

One of the main areas of activity of Gelman was the search for new artists, which expanded the geopolitical boundaries of the interaction of contemporary Russian art. Thanks to the gift, the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery will include works by Ukrainian authors who became active participants in the Moscow art scene in the 1990s: Boris Mikhailov, Alexander Roitburd, Arsen Savadov, Alexander Gnilitsky, Vasily Tsagolov and a member of the legendary Medical Hermeneutics group Sergei Anufriev. The opening of the Gelman Gallery in the late 1990s was the new art of Kazakhstan, presented by such outstanding artists as Said Atabekov, Moldakul Narymbetov, Yerbosyn Meldibekov and Kanat Ibragimov. Among the works donated is the installation of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov's “Tennis Game”, which will be exhibited separately in the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery.
