Max Klinger. Engravings

Exhibition February 13 − May 10, 2020
Max Klinger(1857 - 1920), which was considered the "German Michelangelo" among his contemporaries, was known not only for his sculptures and paintings, but, above all, for his engravings. His innovations in this area were compared to none other than Albrecht Dürer. Numerous 20th-century artists alluded to the work of Max Klinger, including Max Beckmann, Kete Kolwitz and Max Ernst.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the artist’s death, the State Graphic Collection of Munich commemorates the artist, who completed several important graphic cycles in Munich and worked intensively with the Munich publisher.
