Exhibition "
Jacob Lawrence: American Wrestling"will present a little-known series of paintings -" The Struggle ... from the History of the American People "(1954–56) - created by the famous American modernist.
Lawrence's “Fight” was originally conceived as a series of sixty paintings covering subjects from the American Revolution to World War I.
She was supposed to depict, according to the artist, "the struggle of the people for the creation of a nation and their attempt to build democracy." The artist completed thirty panels representing historical moments from 1775 to 1817.
This exhibition - a more inclusive view of the past of the nation is no less relevant today, still deeply resonating with current problems and debates regarding race and national identity.
