Black suns

Exhibition March 25 − July 13, 2020
Poetic and sensual, the exhibition offers a unique meeting with the masterpieces of modern painting and allows you to discover inspiring contemporary art. Almost 75 years after the mythical exhibition “Black is color”, she offers to plunge into a fascinating observation of this tonality with multiple symbols in Western art, from antiquity to the present day.

The color of the paradox, black is the absence of light, emptiness, the joyful sum of all colors, blinding? Popular in life and fashion, black represents social luxury in social portraits of modern Europe, as well as pleasure for the artist. Black is also a symbol of industrial and aesthetic modernity. It is freed to such an extent that it becomes a plastic substance that is constantly questioned or reinvented, as evidenced by the work of Pierre Soulage.

Exhibition "Black suns“includes about 180 works uniting epochs and disciplines, between painting, fashion, decorative art, projections and installations. From Velazquez to artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Delacroix, Courbet, Manet, Kandinsky, Malevich, the exhibition casts doubt on the black paradoxes and the thousands of ways he inspired artists.
