Salzburg Museum presents an exhibition“City landscapes and sea views. Around the World with Hubert Suttler ».
Johann Michael Suttler and his son Hubert in the XIX century created a unique picturesque panoramic exhibition, which presents paintings with views of cities and natural wonders from around the world. These colorful canvases, which Johann Michael Sattler called Cosmoramen, allow viewers to see places inaccessible to them.
On the top floor of the gallery, urban landscapes from the second half of the 19th century are presented - a time when many people left their old homeland due to revolutionary upheavals or impoverishment and hoped to find their happiness in the New World. On the lower floor, Hubert Suttler shows us the power of water: the calm sea in the port of Lisbon, turbulent waterfalls and peaceful river landscapes in the USA or the deep and cool lakes of the Austrian mountains.
