Museum d'Orsay organizes an exhibition
“The origins of the world. From the beginning of time to the age of Darwin ”.
The exhibition features paintings and graphic works by Gabriel von Max, Ernst Haeckel and other artists who conveyed the aesthetics of the animal and plant world.
The exposition is dedicated to the intersection of science and art, draws parallels between scientific discoveries and their visual reproduction. Painters of various genres from romanticism to modernity and symbolism represented Nature as the greatest artist, inhabited the canvases by various creatures - from mythical mermaids and chimeras to tiny inhabitants of the land and the deep sea. The emphasis of the exposition is on the XIX century - it was he who witnessed the unprecedented development of natural science.
