Russian style. From historicism to modernity

The All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art holds an exhibition"Russian style. From historicism to modernism ”.

The exposition includes graphics, drawings, sketches, unique works of wood, metal, glass, ceramics, interior items, costumes, toys. The exhibits allow us to fully imagine the evolution of the development of the Russian style: from the "citation" use of artistic techniques and motifs of folk and ancient Russian art, characteristic of the era of "historicism" to the creative comprehension by artists of the national romantic direction of Viktor Vasnetsov, Elena Polenova, Alexander Golovin, Sergey Malyutin , Nicholas Roerich of the figurative language and ornamental forms of folk and ancient Russian art, to their transformation into a new plastic system of Russian Art Nouveau.

The exhibition widely covers the problems of the formation and development of the Russian style in decorative art from the period of "historicism" of the 1830s - 1870s to the "neo-Russian style" - a significant facet of Russian modernism (1880s - 1900s).
