The Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts has opened the exhibition “Maria Josefa Huarte. The best in the collection. "
The exhibition features more than 50 works by 19 artists, including Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko, Wassily Kandinsky, Eduardo Chillida, Jorge Oteiza, Pablo Palazuelo, Antoni Tapies, Eusebio Sempere and Manuel Millares.
The collection of Maria Josepha Huarte presents a panorama of Spanish art of the 1950s - 1960s, incl. abstractionism, informal, point and gesture painting. Maria Josefa Huarte Beaumont (Pamplona, 1927–2015) began her collection in the early 1950s, with a preference for abstract geometric and informal movements. The uniqueness of her collection is part of the collecting activity that her father and her brothers carried out in parallel, although Maria continued to collect according to her personal taste and take an interest in certain authors and works, teaching herself, visiting galleries and artists' workshops.
