Artist Creation: A Great Tradition

Exhibition August 5 − December 31, 2020
Royal Academy of Arts, London hosts an exhibition"The Creation of an Artist: A Great Tradition".

Visitors will be able to see masterpieces of painting and sculpture from the museum's collection, incl. Michelangelo's Tondo Toddei and William Turner's Dolbadarn Castle.

How is great art created? Joshua Reynolds believed that the art of the past was the most important source of inspiration for him and his contemporaries, but this was contested by later academics JMW Turner and John Constable. While both still included references to historical art in their work, they also drew inspiration from nature, spending long hours capturing the world they saw around them. The exhibition presents the people who founded RA, their ideas about art and how those ideas changed over the next 50 years.
