The Museum Association Berlin State Museums and the Berlin Prints Office present the exhibition “
Love for art consoles me. Paul J. Kristeller between Berlin and Italy".
The exhibition showcases outstanding prints and woodcuts of the Italian Renaissance, including works by Andrea Mantegna, Giulio Campagnola and Marcantonio Raimondi.
The exhibition invites visitors not only to get acquainted with the famous masterpieces of engraving, but also to see them through the eyes of art critic Paul Kristeller. Paul James Kristeller (1863-1931) studied at the Prints Office of Berlin in the early 1890s. His main interest was in Italian wood and copper engraving until the first half of the 16th century. Christeller published his discoveries in a series of publications that are still considered one of the most important specialized publications in the field of Renaissance engraving.
