Nivagaard Art Museum is holding a large exhibition
"Stories of Mothers".
The exhibition features paintings by such masters as Lucas Cranach the Elder, Jens Juhl, Berthe Morisot, Christian Krogh, Joshua Reynolds, Michael Quium and Alexander Tovborg.
The Stories of Mothers exhibition explores the role of the mother in art and cultural history, with a focus on the Renaissance and the early 20th century, as well as contemporary art. Despite being centuries apart, artists over the centuries have been fascinated by the portrayal of the mother as an object of art. Perhaps the most famous mother of all time was the Virgin Mary, who was loved and worshiped by many and has been portrayed by countless artists over the centuries.
