The State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg presents an exhibition
“The first architect of St. Petersburg. Domenico Trezzini ".
Visitors will be able to get acquainted with the work of the largest urban planner of the 18th century Domenico Andrea Trezzini (1670-1734), the author of the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Summer Palace of Peter I, the building of the Twelve Collegia on Vasilyevsky Island and other structures that determined the appearance of early Petersburg. The buildings and complexes erected by him have determined the key, city-forming points of the urban landscape. The list of the architect's numerous works includes the Post Office, the Main Pharmacy, and residential buildings. A special merit is the preparation of "exemplary" projects for different categories of the population and country estates, which laid the foundation for standard construction. The main work of Trezzini's whole life was the creation of the ensemble of the St. Petersburg (Peter and Paul) Fortress. According to the architect's project, in 1706-1733, the fortifications of the fortress were erected in stone, and the Peter and Paul Cathedral was built in its center in 1712-1733.
The exhibition presents paintings and reproductions of drawings and type engravings of the first half of the 18th century, depicting the main works of Domenico Trezzini. With the help of genuine exhibits from the collection of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, the exposition has recreated a conditional interior of the cabinet of an architect of the Peter's era. The architect worked in the city for 30 years, embodying the grandiose plans of Peter I for the construction of the northern capital.
