Art Gallery of New South Wales hosts an exhibition
“Margiel Hinder. Modern in motion ".
For the first time, a specialized retrospective of one of the most important and dynamic Australian sculptors of the 20th century is presented to the audience. The exhibition includes an immersive installation that recreates in real scale many of the author's most significant works to convey their power and complexity.
Margiel Hinder (1906–95) originally worked in woodcarving in the 1930s, but by the early 1950s had shifted to an abstract sculptural language that explored form, space, light and movement. She has created magnificent kinetic works, the slow rotation of which contains the feeling of the world in perpetual motion. Hinder is the author of some of the most unusual and memorable outdoor monuments in Australia.
