National Gallery, Prague hosts an exhibition
"Happy New Year: Josef Bergler".
Visitors will be able to see a series of unique graphic works by the first director of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts.
The painter Josef Bergler (1753 - 1829), the first director of the Prague Academy, played a key role in the development of graphic art in the 19th century, went down in history as a teacher and extremely prolific author. His work includes a series of New Year's wishes. From 1806 until the end of his life, Bergler prepared New Year's paintings annually. They combine traditional iconographic themes with elements of everyday life, humor and irony.
