The Parisian Musée des Beaux-Arts Small Palais (Petit Palais) presents an exhibition
“The circulation is limited. Engravings by Vollard, Petiet and contemporary masters ".
Visitors will find an exposition dedicated to the figure of Ambroise Vollard, publisher of prints and illustrated books, and his successor, Henri Petyer. Viewers will discover the works of Bonnard, Picasso, Maillol, Redon, Chagall ...
Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) was a prominent figure in the art market at the turn of the century. He distinguished himself for his courage, which made him support contemporary artists such as Cézanne, Gauguin or the young Picasso and Rouault. In this exhibition, Petit Palais decided to focus on the important role in a particular field of the publishing of printed and illustrated books. Received numerous gifts and bequests from Vollard himself and his heirs, Petit Palais will present this exceptional collection of prints, enriched with numerous loans from other institutions and collections.
A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the activities of Henri Marie Petit (1894-1980), a merchant who bought the collection of the Vollard gallery at the end of the war. He also pioneered talent and supported personalities as diverse as Jean-Émile Laboureur, André Dunoyer de Segonzac, Aristide Maillol and Marie Laurencin.
