Before the museum ... What were the paintings used for?

Exhibition September 20, 2020 − August 2, 2021
The Museum of Fine Arts of Strasbourg presents an exhibition project "Before the museum ... What were the paintings used for".

None of the works are signed in the exposition presented in the museum. Thus, the original context of the exhibited canvases, the circumstances of creation, the goals and vision of the artist are deliberately ignored.

Art lovers and visitors to museums view paintings as works for places of worship or to decorate expensive houses, but these areas are not the only ones that are relevant. The exhibition seeks to demonstrate that within the same walls, under the same lighting, the viewer can perceive works of art in different ways.
