Dreams of freedom. Romanticism in Russia and Germany

The State Tretyakov Gallery holds an exhibition “Dreams of Freedom. Romanticism in Russia and Germany ".

The exposition brings together the works of the largest artists of the first quarter of the 19th century: Caspar David Friedrich, Philip Otto Runge, Johann Overbeck, Alexander Ivanov, Alexei Venetsianov, Orest Kiprensky, Karl Bryullov and others. More than 300 works, including about 200 paintings, as well as drawings, archival materials and unique exhibits from dozens of German and Russian collections, will reveal the artistic direction of romanticism in all its versatility, marking points of convergence and difference.

“Dreams of Freedom. Romanticism in Russia and Germany ”- the largest international exhibition project in the history of the Tretyakov Gallery dedicated to this topic, was developed in cooperation with the State Art Collections of Dresden. This is the first large-scale attempt to compare the art of the era of romanticism in Russia and Germany on one platform.
