Tel Aviv Art Museum hosts an exhibition
"Alexander Calder: The Big Yellow Sun".
The exhibition opens a window to Calder's work for the viewer, introducing the artist's various works of the past five decades, from the early pencil drawings of 1925 to one of the last mobile phones he created in 1976, the year of his death. The main element of the exposition is the collection of Calder's gouaches, the artist used this technique especially often.
The title of the exhibition "The Big Yellow Sun", taken from the title of one of the artist's gouache paintings, reflects the three main elements of his abstract works: scale, color and shape. The reference to the sun even points to the possibility of yet another intriguing reading of Calder's work as a study of the forces of energy in the universe, combining aesthetics, spirituality, and scientific knowledge in physics, mathematics, and mechanics.
