The exhibition presents more than 15 large-format paintings by the author, as well as 31 paintings and sculptures by six contemporary artists: Mika Gichugu, Yaka Katarikave, Teresa Musoke, Asaf Nguete Makua, Elimo Njau and Sane Wadu.
Michael Armitage is a Kenyan artist working between Nairobi and London. His colorful fairytale paintings are filled with provocative perspectives that play with visual storytelling and challenge cultural perceptions by exploring politics, history, civil unrest, and sexuality. Armitage, an exciting new author, draws inspiration from Titian, Goya, Manet and Gauguin to explore African culture and folklore.
