Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge hosts exhibition
"Women: Creators and Muses".
The exhibit is based on the museum's rich collection of paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics and sculpture, and is the first in an ongoing series dedicated to the work of women throughout art history and from around the world.
For centuries, women's art has been neglected, their careers thwarted, and their accomplishments forgotten. However, despite the obstacles they faced, many continued to pursue art. The exhibition going on contrasts with how women saw themselves through their art from the early twentieth century to the present day, with their depictions of male artists. The exhibition includes works by Gwen John, Marie Louise von Motesiczki, Bridget Riley, Shavanda Corbett and others.
