Igor Grabar. On the 150th anniversary of his birth

An exhibition opened at the State Russian Museum "Igor Grabar. On the 150th anniversary of his birth".
In the halls of the Benois building there are more than 100 paintings made by the master in the 1880s - 1950s. The exposition includes works from 17 Russian museums, as well as private collections of both Russian capitals.
The name of Igor E. Grabar (1871-1960) is inextricably linked with the Silver Age of Russian culture. One of the leading masters of Russian impressionism, Grabar had a significant influence on the development of this trend in Russian painting. Many of his landscapes and still-lifes became true classics of Russian art of the early twentieth century. Grabar became famous also thanks to his works on art history (the first multi-volume history of Russian art, monographs devoted to Valentin Serov and Isaak Levitan) and creation of scientific exposition of the Tretyakov Gallery in the mid-1910s. Equally important is his contribution as an artist, scholar and organizer to the development of national art in Soviet times. Along with a landscape and still life, Grabar in the 1920-30's he actively worked in the field of portraiture, where he created a number of significant works (portraits of composer S. Prokofiev and musician V. Dulova, "Portrait of a Son", a series of portraits of Soviet scientists).
