Images of holy places. Mecca and Medina in the Monuments of Islamic Fine Arts

Exhibition September 10 − October 17, 2021
State Museum of Oriental Art presents exhibition "Images of Shrines. Mecca and Medina in the Monuments of Islamic Fine Arts".

Visitors will see previously unknown miniatures of Islamic manuscripts of the 18th-19th centuries from the collections of Moscow, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Yalta, as well as Tatar, Indian and Pakistani shamayils depicting Mecca and Medina from the collection of the Museum of Oriental Art, Kazan collections and the collection of the Marjani Foundation. In addition, the exhibition will show the influence of European painting on the miniatures and shamails of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Marjani Foundation, Russian State Library, Scientific Library of Kazan Federal University, State Public Science and Technology Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yalta Historical and Literary Museum, Scientific Library of the MGIMO Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Ivanovo State Historical and Local Lore Museum named after D.
