Heritage. Estates.

Exhibition August 26 − October 24, 2021
At the end of August in the open space of the museum "Visiting Chekhov and Levitan" an exhibition "Heritage. Homesteads" by artist Yulia Mamontova.

Russian estates help to keep the memory of history, of the geniuses of Russian culture. Thanks to the museum "Visiting Chekhov and Levitan" and the park-hotel "Cherry Orchard" the audience had an opportunity to immerse themselves in history, in the times of the 19th century, when time was quieter, and women wore dresses, sewn to order. Guests were treated to a magical evening. Stunning costumes for Julia and the audience provided studio "Iris". A walk along the paths of the Kiselev estate with an immersive audio performance-promenade, with the voices of the actors conducting dialogues and sharing the secret secrets of the estate residents, inspired Yulia Mamontova to paint a landscape from the historic site, exactly where Isaac Levitan created the painting "The Istra River".

In her work Yulia Mamontova used the encaustic technique and painted with hot wax paints that contain beeswax, pigments and dammar gum. The technique of encaustic, unfortunately, in Russia undeservedly forgotten and Julia would like to draw attention to it. The paintings may preserve their original appearance, richness and brightness of color for over 3000 years. There is evidence of this - many works of ancient masters are in famous museums around the world - the Louvre, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.

The artist's interest in old manor houses is not accidental. Julia comes from the famous Mamontov family. Her ancestors once supported Russian culture, artists and entertainers. Now Julia draws attention to Russian culture through her work. The artist's activity is confirmed by the words of her father Vladimir Mamontov who began his opening speech with the well-known proverb: "Blood is not water". Yulia's father is extremely pleased that her choice of subject is old estates, her desire to preserve monuments and to popularize Russian cultural heritage.

The exhibition will run until October 24 (the museum is closed August 28 and September 3-12, 2021).
