Poussin and dance

Exhibition October 9, 2021 − January 2, 2022
The National Gallery of London presents an exhibition "Poussin and dance.".

The exhibition will show Poussin's paintings and drawings with dances alongside the ancient sculpture he studied, inviting the viewer to trace the evolution of the artist's creative ideas from marble to paper and painting.

Poussin's dance paintings are unique. They bring to life the classical world of gods and mortals with wild and exuberant movements, but the chaos on canvas does not reflect the painstaking and inventive process that allowed the artist to capture moving bodies. The techniques of Poussin's work are fully revealed with the reconstruction of his wax figures, from which the artist transformed various compositions, highlighting his role not only as a dance artist but also as a choreographer.
