Ilya Lukyanov. Philosophy of Still Life

Exhibition September 28 − October 31, 2021
Artmusa Museum of Contemporary Art invites you to visit the exhibition "Ilya Lukyanov. Philosophy of Still Life".

The viewers will see the works that seem to have come out from under the brush of the masters of the Golden Age of Dutch painting: the material presented by the author offers an opportunity for an emotional dialogue with the image plane of the frame. The still life subject matter and language of the modern digital photography serve as a starting point. Symbiosis of photography and classical painting of the XVII-XVIII centuries: Ilya Lukyanov, a Moscow teacher of photography, formed a new style and dedicated an exhibition to it.

In Lukyanov's own words, this teaching practice virtually overturned his own view of photography and made him look at classical painting, which is the origins of modern photography, in a completely different way. It was that moment when the new essence of still life photography was revealed to him and he deliberately began to work on his new series of works titled Still Life Philosophy. The photographs are extremely balanced and made with the utmost care. The effect of his photographs is achieved by the play of light and shadow and it is important to note the absence of post-processing.
