Adolf Menzel: Between History and Everyday Life

Exhibition November 16, 2021 − February 14, 2022
National Gallery, Prague presents the exhibition "Adolf Menzel: Between History and Everyday Life.

The exhibition includes works by the German painter Adolf Menzel, a talented painter who became famous for historical painting and a sought-after illustrator.

As the son of the owner of a lithographic studio, Menzel devoted much time from an early age to the graphic arts, including works of a caricatural and comic nature. The artist was of the same age as the French realists, and it is clear from his work and his biography that he followed modern art in France, paving the way for the "new" art.
