Ernst Wilhelm Nye. A Retrospective

Exhibition March 25 − August 7, 2022
Hamburg Kunsthalle invites you to visit the exhibition "Ernst Wilhelm Nye. Retrospective.".

This is the first such large-scale retrospective of the artist in the last 30 years, including 120 paintings, watercolors and drawings. The exhibition highlights the central themes and motifs that have shaped Nye's work over the decades.

Even as a young artist, Ernst Wilhelm Nye (1902-1968) found recognition among collectors, art historians and critics around the 1930s, was featured in important exhibitions and won first prizes. His powerful, colorful paintings are considered a bridge between art before and after World War II, between expressionism, abstraction and free gesture painting after 1945, between German and world modernism.
