Francesco Messina. A Modern Novelty

Exhibition April 14 − September 4, 2022
The Villa Torlonia Museum in Rome holds an exhibition "Francesco Messina. A Modern Novecento.".

The rich exhibition features 81 sculptures by Francesco Messina as well as works by fifteen contemporary artists. The exhibition covers the master's work from the 1930s to the 1980s. The exhibition consists of sections that revolve around the main themes of Messina's research: portraiture - between archaeology and modernity, the approach to tradition with a modern view, anatomical studies, color, and monumental sculpture.

From the very beginning of his artistic career, Francesco Messina indicated a clear focus on the great artistic tradition of figurative sculpture, using classical techniques and materials - bronze, marble, wax, terracotta, plaster - capturing the taste of an audience far removed from overly daring experiments.
