The Indomitable Cranach. Early years in Vienna

An exhibition opened at the Museum of Art History "The Indomitable Cranach. Early years in Vienna".
The exhibition presents paintings by Louis Cranach the Elder from the collection of the Museum of History and the collection of Oskar Reinhart, including the few surviving works created during the master's stay in Vienna. Particular attention is paid to the portrait painting of Cranach. The famous portraits of the humanist Johannes Cuspinianus and his wife Anna left the collection in Winterthur for the first time and returned to where they were painted.
Cranach, a native of Franconia, created his earliest surviving works in Vienna, presumably arriving in the city around 1500. These canvases are famous for their remarkable expressive power, radically different from the courtly and elegant manner he adopted soon after becoming court painter to the Elector of Saxony.
