The Kunsthistorisches Museum, Wien, holds an exhibition
"Around the World in 80 Coins".
Visitors will discover the "contents of the purses" of 16 great personalities: Cleopatra, Marco Polo, El Greco, Antoine de Saint-Exupery and others.
The exhibits tell of the journeys and discoveries of their illustrious owners. Coins have always been indispensable, yet most often invisible companions. Like time travelers, they have survived centuries, and sometimes even millennia, mostly unscathed, and now serve as historical documents testifying to past cultures.
