Stadel art Institute have devoted a comprehensive special exhibition to Peter Paul Rubens – world famous painter. Exposure
"Rubens. The power of transformation" including about a hundred exhibits, including thirty-one film and twenty-three drawings of the masters, and explores a hitherto little-known aspect of his creative process.
The show demonstrates how deeply was the dialogue that Rubens was leading with his predecessors and contemporaries, and understood the extent of his influence during all five decades of his career. His works reflect the influence of ancient sculpture and of later Italian art, from masters of the late XV century to the contemporaries of the artist. Often only a closer look shows how Rubens relied on the work of painters from different eras. The exhibition gives the opportunity to see the sometimes remarkable correlation in detail.
In addition to the original sculptures belonging to classical antiquity and the Renaissance, the exhibition includes paintings and engravings of his predecessors and contemporaries, Rubens, among them Titian, Tintoretto, Goltzius, Rottenhammer and Alzheimer, as well as by Giambologna and others.
