Nikolay Nikogosyan. Outgoing classics

Exhibition March 2 − April 22, 2018
The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a solo exhibition "Nikolai Nikogosian. Outgoing classic. The 100th anniversary of the master is dedicated ".

The exhibition shows the master from an unexpected side: as not only a sculptor, but also a painter, little known to the general public.
The exhibition consists of 137 works, including 12 sculptural works from the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery, as well as 68 paintings, 8 graphic works and 49 sculptural works from the Nico Gallery.

Nikolai Bagratovich Nikogosyan is a Soviet, Armenian and Russian sculptor, painter and graphic artist, teacher, laureate of the USSR State Prize, full member of the Russian Academy of Arts. During his life he realized many projects, both in monumental sculpture and in painting. The master has been living and working in Moscow for many years, maintaining a permanent connection with Armenia. He organically combines in his work the traditions of classical European and ancient Armenian art. The sculptural and pictorial works created by him became the classics of 20th century art.

Nikoghosyan began painting from the 1970s, and to this day, it was and is a special passion of the master. Impulsive, expressive works of N.B. Nikoghosyan bear the stamp of the personality of his creator - they show the passion of the artist seeking and not afraid of experiments.

In sculpture and painting, the most creative individuality of the sculptor was manifested in the portrait genre. For seven decades, the artist created a unique portrait gallery of contemporaries, from famous scientists and artists to simple workers. In addition, throughout his creative life, Nikolai Nikogosyan constantly writes self-portraits - this is a special way of his own inner world. At the exhibition for the first time you can see graphic self-portraits of a master of recent years.
