About the exhibition
Eugene Delacroix was one of the giants of French painting, but his last full retrospective was held in Paris in 1963 and was dedicated to the centenary of his death. Now the Louvre in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum in new York holds an exhibition of historical "Delacroix (1798 – 1863)" which pays tribute to the career of the artist. The exhibition includes approximately 180 works, mainly paintings, from the first hits of the young artist in the Salons of the 1820s years before his recent, less famous and mysterious religious scenes and landscapes.
The exhibition will show the voltage characteristic of the work of Delacroix. He sought to identity, following in the footsteps of the Flemish and Venetian masters of the XVI and XVII centuries. The retrospective is intended to answer the questions raised a long, fruitful and diverse career Delacroix. The visitors will see an attractive man is a masterly writer, artist and Illustrator, who was curious, critical, obsessed with fame and dedicated to his work.
