Mikhail Larionov

The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a large retrospective exhibition of one of the founders of the Russian avant-garde and its recognized leader Mikhail Fedorovich Larionov (1881–1964).

The uniqueness of the project "Mikhail Larionov"that the last exhibition of the artist in Russia was organized by AK Larionova-Tomilina 38 years ago, in 1980, in the State Russian Museum, and then in the Tretyakov Gallery. This exhibition includes about 500 exhibits, including 100 paintings and 150 graphic works by Mikhail Larionov, as well as photographs, archival documents and much more. In addition to works from the Tretyakov Gallery itself, paintings from Tate Galleriesin London, Victoria and Albert Museumin London, Albertinsin Vienna, Ludwig Museumin Cologne, Pompidou Centerin Paris, regional Russian museums and from private collections.

Mikhail Larionov is an artist of an unusually wide range, a person who was interested in literally everything in the artistic sphere. A brilliant, always unexpected painter, an exquisite graphic artist, an inventive theater decorator, a book illustrator who started the futuristic book, an organizer of exhibitions and artistic associations, a choreographer, a ballet historian, a collector - it's hard to imagine that these words describe one person.

The exhibition includes works that reflect the main activities of the artist, as well as a wide range of interests of Larionov the collector.
