National Museum of Decorative ArtsThere is an exhibition of the artist Alexander Roitburd entitled “Copies for substitution”. It presents works based on real paintings, which are included in the fund of the Odessa Art Museum. The artist headed this institution in March 2018.
In an interview, Alexander Roitburd said: “It all started with the fact that my opponents from Oppoblok began to charge me that I plan to replace all the paintings in the Odessa Museum with fakes, and sell the original paintings. worth doing, and began to paint fakes. Then I’ll replace the original works with them, get rich, and no one will notice the substitution. "
The so-called "fakes" of works are somewhat similar to Malevich's suprematic works. The exhibition includes 13 paintings. Interestingly, the author himself categorically opposes that his copies and originals are displayed side by side. “As an artist, I would definitely like this, but as the director of the museum I cannot allow the paintings of such an immoral artist as Alexander Roitburd to hang next to the paintings of real masters,” the author jokes.
