Art Center Northwind was founded on 5 January 1991. and thus became the first non-profit gallery of St. Petersburg, an independent organization culture.
The main task is to represent a broad cross section of artistic and intellectual life, necessary to develop criteria of evaluation of contemporary art.
Boreas, first and foremost, is an exhibition platform that allows many artists, often unknown, to showcase their work. These artists were once Dmitry Shorin, Nikolai Kopeikin, artists Association "New Stupid" and many others, for which Zephyr was one of the first exhibition opportunities.
The structure of the Center consists of exhibition halls, design Studio, photo Studio, publishing house "Borey Art", book Department, art salon, a café-club. In the gallery five exhibition halls, exhibition space sells 24 to 48 exhibitions per year. At the dawn of the ' 90s, we were the first to conduct theoretical seminars, conferences, philosophical and literary readings. For 25 years we have published more than 100 short-run books of contemporary poetry, prose, essays, transcripts of the philosophical seminars and poetry readings were held in Boreas
In the halls of the art centre, it was possible to see and hear musicians such as Andrei Makarevich, Yuri Shevchuk, Sergey Kuryokhin, BG, Vyacheslav Butusov, Night snipers, Siskin and Umka
In 1996-1999, in the Small hall of the gallery was the play "Marble" - the first in the history of the writing of the play by J. Brodsky (Director G. Dityatkovsky); Grand Prix festival Christmas 1996, the prize "Golden soffit", 1997)
Northwind always supported young artists, one evidence of this artistic Association PARAZIT, which has occupied the corridor of the art center and every two weeks there demonstrating the new features.
