An auditor student at the Academy of Arts from 1850 Received medals: 1852 - a large silver; 1853 - 2 gold for the "View of Rucheiskoe lake near the city of Toropets". In 1854 1 gold medal for the "View from life in the Pskov Province" and the title of artist XIV class. In 1855, sent to the pensioner abroad; in 1861 he received the title of academician of landscape painting. (Kondakov)

She studied at the Academy of Arts under the leadership of M. N. Vorobiev and F. A. Bruni . In düsseldorf he worked with A. Achenbach, Switzerland from Calama, then in Rome and Paris. In 1861 an academician. In 1870 sent to Russia to study Russian types. From 1865 to 1885 was a teacher in St. Petersburg. drawing school of the society for the encouragement of arts.
